Prairie View A&M names interim president to steer college

A former Ivy League president has been named to steer Prairie View A&M College as interim president.

Dr. Ruth Simmons, who retired as president of Brown College in 2012, will begin as interim president on July 1. Final week, President George Wright introduced that he was stepping down after 14 years to return to educating.

“We’re lucky to have such a excessive-caliber scholar and administrator who can step in with out lacking a beat,” stated Texas A&M System Chancellor John Sharp in a launch. “Dr. Simmons has been an necessary determine on the nationwide stage for many years. Simmons, who attended public faculties in Houston, graduated from Dillard College and acquired her Ph. D. from Harvard College.
