The Massachusetts Senate has scheduled debate on a proposal that might permit an individual to listing a non-binary gender designation on their driver’s license.
The bill on the calendar for a Senate session on Thursday would offer a selection of itemizing gender as “X” as an alternative of male or feminine. Along with driver’s licenses, the proposed change would also apply to learner’s permits and state identification playing cards.
The legislation cleared the Senate by an awesome vote in the late levels of the 2017-2018 legislative session, but did not receive ultimate votes.
The invoice is strongly supported by Democratic Senate President Karen Spilka, who stated not everybody matches neatly into the normal categories of male and female and ought to be permitted to have IDs that correspond to their gender id.
