Boston City Council president proposes extending term limits – Boston Herald



BOSTON  — Boston metropolis councilors are contemplating a proposal that might prolong their terms limits.

Council President Andrea Campbell stated throughout a Monday listening to that time period extensions would strengthen the position of the Boston City Council, making it extra “autonomous.” The Boston Globe stories that in addition to extending the nonpartisan council’s phrases from two to four years, Campbell proposes banning candidates from operating for 2 city positions directly and requiring special elections for council vacancies in at-giant seats.

Underneath present metropolis guidelines, Althea Garrison ascended to Democratic U.S. Rep. Ayanna Pressley’s council seat with out one other election following Pressley’s election to Congress.

Garrison opposed Campbell’s proposal Monday. The complete council is slated to think about the proposals Wednesday.
