Investment board says Airbnb West Bank action is illegal

Illinois officials say that Airbnb’s ban on lodging listings within the disputed West Bank violates state regulation.

The Investment Policy Board ‘s vote Wednesday followed Gov. Bruce Rauner’s request last month. He sought a evaluation of Airbnb’s determination to take away 200 collaborating properties in Israeli settlements in the West Bank.

The board choice means Illinois might ban investment in Airbnb if it provides public inventory.

Airbnb senior vice chairman Christopher Lehane says in a letter to the board Wednesday that Airbnb is following firm coverage for disputed territory worldwide. He says it is the similar as U.S. multinational lodge chains’ insurance policies. He says Airbnb isn’t anti-Israel and firm investment in the area has drawn boycott-motion criticism.

Israel claimed the West Financial institution from Jordan in the 1967 Center East Conflict.
